China\u2019s commerce ministry on Saturday raised the possibility of \u200canother global semiconductor supply chain crisis due to \u201cnew conflicts\u201d between Dutch chipmaker Nexperia and its Chinese subsidiary.<\/strong><\/p>\n Production across the global auto industry was disrupted in October when Beijing imposed export controls on Chinese-made Nexperia \u200bchips after The Hague seized the company from its Chinese parent Wingtech. Nexperia\u2019s \u200bchips are widely used in cars\u2019 electronic systems.<\/p>\n While the chip shortage \u2060has eased after diplomatic negotiations, the conflict between Nexperia\u2019s Dutch headquarters and its China-based \u200bunit has only intensified, with the former supporting the removal of Wingtech\u2019s control and \u200bthe latter demanding this be restored.<\/p>\n Beijing\u2019s warning on Saturday came a day after Nexperia\u2019s Chinese packaging arm accused Netherlands-based headquarters of disabling office accounts for all employees in China.<\/p>\n \u201c(This has) provoked new conflicts \u200band created new difficulties and obstacles for (company-to-company) negotiations,\u201d China\u2019s commerce ministry said in \u200ba statement published on its official website.<\/p>\n \u201cNexperia Netherlands has seriously disrupted the company\u2019s normal production and \u200coperation, and \u2060if this triggers a global semiconductor production and supply chain crisis again, the Netherlands must bear full responsibility for this,\u201d the ministry added.<\/p>\n In a statement on Friday Nexperia\u2019s Dutch entity did not deny the IT action, but disputed the Chinese subsidiary\u2019s \u200ballegation that this had \u200baffected production at \u2060the company\u2019s assembly and testing facility in China\u2019s Guangdong province.<\/p>\n Nexperia\u2019s Chinese subsidiary responded to the removal of Wingtech\u2019s control in September \u200bby declaring itself independent of its Dutch parent. Both entities have \u200bsince traded \u2060accusations of bad-faith negotiating, while the Dutch headquarters has suspended wafer supply to the Guangdong plant.<\/p>\n Efforts from Beijing, The Hague, and Brussels to push both to a mediated resolution have \u2060done little \u200bto resolve the impasse.<\/p>\n Beijing has accused The Hague of \u200bnot doing enough to force compromise from Nexperia\u2019s Netherlands headquarters, or end court proceedings in Amsterdam that transferred Wingtech\u2019s \u200bshares to a Dutch lawyer in October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
