AMSTERDAM, March 14: An explosion lightly damaged a Jewish school in \u200bAmsterdam early on Saturday, in what the city\u2019s mayor \u200cdescribed as \u201ca deliberate attack against the Jewish community\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n The explosion at the school in an upscale residential neighbourhood on the south side \u200bof Amsterdam damaged a rainpipe and charred an outer wall, \u200band caused no injuries.<\/p>\n Mayor Femke Halsema said the incident was \u2060taken very seriously, and would lead to increased security \u200bat Jewish institutions.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a cowardly act of aggression against \u200bthe Jewish community,\u201d Halsema said.<\/p>\n \u201cJewish people in Amsterdam are increasingly confronted with antisemitism. This is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n The school is the only one specifically \u200bfor orthodox Jews in the Netherlands, and is largely \u200bfenced off by a pointed, metal outer wall due to earlier threats.<\/p>\n Security \u200cat \u2060synagogues and Jewish institutions in the Dutch capital had already been heightened after an overnight arson attack at a synagogue in the centre of Rotterdam on Friday.<\/p>\n In neighbouring Belgium, an \u200bexplosion caused \u200ba fire at \u2060a synagogue in Liege on Monday.<\/p>\n Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten called the attack in Amsterdam \u201chorrible\u201d \u200band said it understandably caused \u201cfear and anger\u201d \u200bin the \u2060Jewish community.<\/p>\n \u201cThe safety of Jewish institutions has our full attention,\u201d he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n Concerns about possible attacks against \u2060Jewish \u200bcommunities around the world have risen \u200bfollowing U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran and a subsequent response from Tehran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
