England paceman Mark Wood said his recovery from a knee injury is \u201creal slow going\u201d but the 36-year-old knows \u200bthat at this stage of his career it could \u200call be over if he pushes too hard.<\/strong><\/p>\n Wood returned to the longest format after 15 months to feature in the first Ashes test \u200bagainst Australia in November, but was ruled out of \u200bthe remainder of the series following a recurrence of \u2060a left knee injury.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s real slow going with the \u200bstage I am at in my career,\u201d Wood told the BBC\u2019s \u200bTailenders podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s quite a fine balance, where if I push this too hard then that could be it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s six-week blocks, it\u2019s not day \u200bby day, it\u2019s specialists and rescans every six weeks. It\u2019s \u200bbeen improving since what I got told had been an explosion in \u200cmy \u2060knee in Australia.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve started running now and I\u2019m hoping by the next block it\u2019s in a position where maybe I can start lightly bowling.\u201d<\/p>\n Wood, who has taken 253 international wickets \u200bin 38 tests, \u200b70 ODIs and \u206038 Twenty 20s, said the latest spell on the sidelines has made him start thinking \u200babout life beyond the sport.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve started thinking about \u200bother \u2060things, doing podcasts, doing my coaching badges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve now started to try and think for the first time about what \u2060I \u200bshould do if this doesn\u2019t go \u200bwell.\u201d<\/p>\n England will next host New Zealand in a three-match test series in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
