At least six people died and several were injured in an incident \u200bpolice suspect was triggered by a \u200cfalling electricity pole that alarmed a crowd of worshippers at a temple in India\u2019s \u200beastern state of Bihar, officials said \u200bon Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Authorities were checking the cause of \u2060the incident among devotees observing a \u200bHindu holy month at the Ashok \u200bDham temple in the district of Lakhisarai.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is being said that an electric pole fell there \u200band people were electrocuted, which led \u200bto a stampede-like situation,\u201d Shivam Kumar, a senior police \u200cofficer, \u2060told news agency ANI. \u201cWe can tell you the exact reason only after verifying everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

At least five people were injured \u200bin the \u200bincident, a \u2060senior official told Reuters.Television showed images of relatives thronging hospitals \u200bas rescuers brought in people \u200bon \u2060stretchers.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s history of crowd accidents includes 30 deaths at the giant Maha Kumbh festival last year, \u2060when \u200btens of millions gathered \u200bto bathe in sacred waters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
