STOCKHOLM: Apple said on Tuesday it will charge a 5% commission on digital transactions in apps distributed outside \u200bits App Store, replacing a more complex system as it \u200cseeks to comply with the European Union\u2019s Digital Markets Act.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last year, the company changed its App Store rules and fees in the EU after the blohttps:\/\/arynews.tv\/iphone-18-pro-max-leaks-spark-conflicting-rumorsc\u2019s antitrust regulators ordered it to remove commercial barriers they said hindered developers from directing customers outside the store.<\/span><\/p>\n

The regulators criticized Apple\u2019s conditions, including a new Core Technology Fee, saying they discouraged developers from using alternative app distribution channels on its iOS mobile operating system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple said on Tuesday that App Store apps using alternative payment processing will face a 20% commission, although fees could fall to 10% under its small \u200bbusiness program.<\/span><\/p>\n

For apps distributed through alternative app marketplaces or the web, \u200bApple will charge a 5% Core Technology Commission.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new terms eliminate the initial \u200cacquisition \u2060fee and store services fee charged under the previous system.<\/span><\/p>\n

The changes, effective October 1, will resolve disagreements with the EU and the European Commission over these issues, Apple said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Commission said it welcomed Apple\u2019s \u200bchanges, and will \u200bmonitor their implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apple will introduce a single set of terms for developers operating in the EU, similar to the commission-based terms it offers in markets such as Japan and Brazil, the company said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Japan and Brazil have sought to open up Apple\u2019s App Store business model, under which developers have long paid \u2060commissions \u200bof up to 30% on in-app purchases \u200bof digital goods and services. Apple is still litigating over what it can charge developers in \u200bthe United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
