Cryptocurrency- and blockchain-related stocks surged on Thursday after U.S. President \u200bDonald Trump urged Congress to pass legislation establishing clear rules for digital \u200cassets, following a White House meeting with industry executives.<\/strong><\/p>\n Trump, a vocal cryptocurrency advocate who has promised to make the U.S. the \u201ccrypto capital of the world,\u201d on Wednesday called on \u200blawmakers to pass a \u201cfair version of the Clarity Act\u201d, an industry-backed \u200bbill stalled in the Senate.<\/p>\n \u201cTrump\u2019s comments yesterday are incrementally positive because \u2060they suggest the White House is putting more direct pressure on \u200bCongress to get the legislation done,\u201d said U.S. Tiger Securities analyst Bo Pei.<\/p>\n Clarity, \u200bif enacted, would define whether cryptocurrency qualifies as a security or a commodity, clarifying jurisdiction between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission over the \u200bsector.<\/p>\n Industry executives and analysts have said that without legislation, regulations are vulnerable to \u200bshifting political winds and court challenges.<\/p>\n However, many Democrats, and some Republicans, say they would \u200cnot \u2060support a bill without strong language banning political officials, including Trump, from profiting from their own crypto ventures.<\/p>\n President Trump disclosed more than $1.4 billion in earnings from his family\u2019s crypto ventures in 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cThe concerns around Trump and his family profiting \u200bfrom crypto ventures \u200bare therefore important \u2060and could complicate the negotiations, particularly around ethics and conflict-of-interest provisions,\u201d Pei said.<\/p>\n Bitcoin rose 3.8% and crossed the $70,000 mark. \u200bThe world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency has lost about 18% so \u200bfar this \u2060year and remains down about 43% from its record high in October.<\/p>\n Ether gained 3.3%, its highest level in over three months.<\/p>\n Crypto exchange Coinbase Global gained 5.7%, while bitcoin \u2060bull \u200bStrategy rose 5.8%.<\/p>\n Bitcoin mining machine maker Canaan surged \u200b12.5%, stablecoin issuer Circle gained 3.8% and retail trading platform Robinhood advanced 1%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
