Ben Stokes has labelled the decision not to hold a men\u2019s Ashes Test at Headingley next year \u201cshambolic\u201d, after Joe Root expressed disappointment that Leeds was left off the schedule.<\/strong><\/p>\n England thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs inside three days at Headingley on Friday, their seventh successive Test win at the ground.<\/p>\n It was an ideal start to Root\u2019s second stint as Test captain after taking over the side following former skipper Stokes\u2019s surprise international retirement.<\/p>\n Root said it was a \u201cshame\u201d his Yorkshire home ground would miss out on staging a match during the 2027 men\u2019s Ashes.<\/p>\n Stokes, posting a screenshot of Root\u2019s words, said in a social media post: \u201cShame is an understatement tbh. Shambolic would be more appropriate. Great win though.\u201d<\/p>\n Stokes had said he was \u201cdevastated\u201d there would be no men\u2019s Ashes Tests in northern England next year when the schedule was first announced in 2023.<\/p>\n Headingley will host the one-off women\u2019s Ashes Test.<\/p>\n The men\u2019s series will visit the Rose Bowl, close to Southampton, for the first time, with Trent Bridge, Lord\u2019s, Edgbaston and the Oval staging the other four games.<\/p>\n \u201cI would love to play as many games as possible here,\u201d Root said after England went 1-0 up in their three-Test series against Pakistan.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a great Test match venue and a surface that provides brilliant Test cricket.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve had quite a lot of success on it recently, so it\u2019s a shame we don\u2019t get to play here next year. I\u2019m sure we will see many, many more brilliant Test matches here.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
