Eli Lilly has launched its pill, Foundayo, in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes, it said \u200bon Monday, making Britain the first country in Europe where the \u200coral treatment is available.<\/strong><\/p>\n The pill, known chemically as orforglipron, will be available via private prescription after Britain\u2019s medicines regulator authorised the drug on August 10, making it the second GLP-1 \u200btablet to be launched in the UK after Novo Nordisk\u2019s Wegovy pill.<\/p>\n England\u2019s \u200bhealth cost-effectiveness watchdog, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, \u2060must assess the pill before it can become available on the state-run \u200bNational Health Service.<\/p>\n Lilly said it was working with NICE during the agency\u2019s assessment \u200bof Foundayo for weight management access.<\/p>\n A NICE spokesperson said that the agency has requested further information on Foundayo following its first committee meeting, with no date set for a second \u200breview. The agency reiterated that Novo was yet to make an evidence submission for \u200bWegovy pill.<\/p>\n Until then, patients can access the pill through private providers. Foundayo will likely be \u200cpriced \u2060between \u00a3100 and \u00a3120 ($136 and $164), lower than Lilly\u2019s Mounjaro injection\u2019s \u00a3330 price for a month\u2019s supply, the company said.<\/p>\n Private providers in the UK price the Wegovy weight-loss pill from \u00a374 to \u00a3129 per month for initial low doses, with most starting rates tied to \u200bmulti-month subscription plans. Prices \u200bfor patients go \u2060up as they move to higher doses of the pill.<\/p>\n In the U.S., self-pay prices for the Wegovy pill and Foundayo \u200bstart at $149 per month, and can rise up to $299 and $349 \u200brespectively for \u2060higher doses. A new U.S. Medicare pilot offers selective access to the oral drugs for $50 a month.<\/p>\n Foundayo remains under review in the European Union, while Novo\u2019s Wegovy \u2060pill \u200bhas won a positive recommendation from the European Medicines \u200bAgency, with a final decision from the European Commission pending.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
