WASHINGTON: The immigrant father of a U.S. sailor on board the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, which was deployed in the Middle East during \u200bthe Iran war, was taken into federal immigration detention, the sailor said \u200cin a Facebook post.<\/strong><\/p>\n U.S. Border Patrol arrested Luis Manuel Aviles Roa, originally from Nicaragua, after conducting a vehicle stop in Key West, Florida, a spokesperson of the Department of Homeland Security, \u200bof which Border Patrol is a part, separately said on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been \u200bdeployed for over nine months, out at sea in the Middle \u2060East aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, fighting for a country that has given \u200bme everything,\u201d Joshua Aviles, the son of the detained immigrant, said on Facebook.<\/p>\n \u201cI just \u200bgot a call that my dad was taken by ICE,\u201d he said on Saturday, adding his father had his driver\u2019s license, social security card and work permit.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have done everything through immigration \u200bto get his green card approved, and we are just waiting. This is \u200bheartbreaking for me. I don\u2019t know how I can mentally continue working 12+ hour days knowing \u200cthat \u2060my dad is somewhere, possibly being treated like a criminal,\u201d the Facebook post added.<\/p>\n The DHS said Luis Manuel Aviles Roa entered the U.S. illegally and would remain in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention pending removal proceedings.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHaving a family member in the \u200bmilitary is not a \u200bfree pass to \u2060violate our nation\u2019s laws,\u201d the DHS said.<\/span><\/p>\n President Donald Trump says his immigration crackdown is aimed at improving domestic security. Rights groups \u200bsay the crackdown has violated free speech and due process \u200brights and \u2060created an unsafe environment, particularly for ethnic minorities, who have raised concerns about racial profiling.<\/span><\/p>\n
