Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday that it had agreed with Oman to share any revenues earned from the Strait of Hormuz, a day after their top diplomats met in Tehran.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cDuring negotiations with Oman, some agreements were made regarding each country\u2019s share of the waters of the Strait and Iran\u2019s and Oman\u2019s shares of its revenues,\u201d said Guards spokesman Hossein Mohebi.<\/p>\n He nonetheless accused the United States of \u201cobstructing work\u201d to finalise a deal.<\/p>\n Efforts to permanently end the war between Iran and the United States have stalled, with a key point of contention being Tehran\u2019s demand to charge ships for passage through Hormuz \u2014 a demand flatly rejected by Washington.<\/p>\n Iran and Oman, both coastal states on the strait, have for weeks been discussing the future of navigation through the waterway, with Tehran saying the geographical coordinates of a route envisaged by the two countries \u201chave been agreed upon\u201d.<\/p>\n Iranian officials, however, have insisted that the strait will not fully reopen until the United States meets Tehran\u2019s demands, including lifting its naval blockade, removing oil sanctions and unfreezing assets abroad.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, Iran and Oman\u2019s foreign ministers held talks in Tehran, discussing a framework for a temporary transit corridor through Hormuz and a mine-clearing project in the waterway.<\/p>\n Iran has blockaded the crucial waterway \u2014 which normally carries about a fifth of the world\u2019s oil and liquefied natural gas exports \u2014 since the outbreak of war with the United States on February 28.<\/p>\n Washington has imposed a naval counter-blockade on Iranian ports and threatened fresh sanctions aimed at pressuring Iran.<\/p>\n Mohebi said Iran would only \u201copen the strait\u201d if Washington met Tehran\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
