LONDON \u2013 England will look to secure their first test series victory in \u200calmost two years and shift the focus back to cricket when they face Pakistan in the second test at Lord\u2019s starting on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n The first-test victory by an innings and 103 runs marked the start of Joe Root\u2019s second stint as test captain but \u200bhe was seething when addressing the media on Tuesday following another embarrassing disciplinary breach.<\/p>\n Root said he was \u201chacked \u200boff\u201d after videos on social media appeared to show England fast bowler Brydon Carse \u2060in handcuffs being spoken to by police officers on Saturday outside a nightclub in Derby.<\/p>\n He was subsequently dropped \u200bfrom the squad for the second test.<\/p>\n Fast bowler Josh Tongue said Root\u2019s firm talk had resonated with the players.<\/p>\n \u201cIt \u200bwas a chat that was needed, a very good chat from Rooty,\u201d the 28-year-old Tongue told reporters on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s been around the England dressing room for plenty of years now, he knows what it takes to be the top professional and I think \u200bwe\u2019ve just got to do the best we can moving forward.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we\u2019ve just got to make sure we\u2019re \u200bas professional as we can be. Obviously things have happened and we need to try and move on from them to \u200cshow \u2060all the youngsters growing up wanting to play for England that it\u2019s an amazing place to be,\u201d Tongue added.<\/p>\n OFF-FIELD ILL-DISCIPLINE<\/p>\n England have won three and lost six of their nine tests since last October \u2014 a period marked by ill-discipline off the pitch including white-ball captain Harry Brook fined \u00a330,000 ($41,000) for an altercation with a bouncer in Wellington, and reports \u200bof a booze-fuelled mid-series break \u200bduring the Ashes in \u2060Noosa.<\/p>\n Former test captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson broke a curfew after the first test win over New Zealand this year and were dropped for the next match.<\/p>\n Victory \u200bat Lord\u2019s would help turn the focus back on cricket and England will be \u200bstrong favourites \u2060as they are likely to field an unchanged team from Headingley.<\/p>\n Tongue and Ollie Robinson took eight wickets apiece in the first test as Pakistan\u2019s batting crumbled but Root is expecting a sterner test with the touring side hopeful that captain \u2060Babar \u200bAzam will return from a finger injury.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know the individual brilliance \u200bthat lies within that team and what Pakistan are capable of collectively,\u201d he said. \u201cWe also know that whenever we play anyone at Lord\u2019s, they \u200bgenerally raise their game.
