LAHORE: Power generation has declined at several power plants, resulting in a significant increase in electricity shortfall across Pakistan, ARY News reported on Friday, citing sources in the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sources said the duration of loadshedding in Lahore and other parts of Punjab had increased to between two and three hours.<\/p>\n

The electricity shortfall faced by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has crossed 1,200 megawatts, sources said, adding that tripping incidents were also contributing to prolonged power outages in the LESCO region.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the overall electricity shortfall in the country has exceeded 4,000 megawatts, according to sources.<\/p>\n

Sources further said an RLNG vessel carrying fuel had failed to arrive at the port, raising concerns that the ongoing gas supply crisis could intensify and further affect power generation.<\/p>\n

The decline in generation, coupled with transmission and distribution-related tripping and fuel supply concerns, has contributed to longer power outages in several areas.<\/p>\n

Earlier on August 7, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a nationwide increase of Rs.0.75 per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.<\/p>\n

According to a notification issued by NEPRA, the increase relates to the June 2026 monthly adjustment and will also apply to consumers of K-Electric.<\/p>\n

It was further mentioned in the notification that the revised tariff will be reflected in electricity bills issued during August.<\/p>\n

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had sought an increase of Rs.1.20 per unit for the June adjustment.<\/p>\n

The latest increase followed a Rs.0.34 per unit rise approved under the May monthly adjustment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
