US forces have struck two Iranian launchers on Iran\u2019s Larak island, a US official said, marking the first known American strikes on Iran since late July.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIslamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into Strait of Hormuz,\u201d US Central Command (Centcom) spokesman Cdr Tim Hawkins said.<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, the administration of US President Donald Trump has prioritized \u201ceconomic warfare\u201d over military strikes on Iran.<\/p>\n

Tehran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic sea lane through which one-fifth of the world\u2019s oil passed before the United States and Israel triggered hostilities with strikes on Iran on February 28.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast week, CENTCOM completed clearing sea mines from the strait\u2019s international shipping routes,\u201d said Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for US Central Command.<\/p>\n

\u201cUS forces are monitoring the area closely and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through this essential waterway,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While Trump has repeatedly said the Strait of Hormuz is open, Iran\u2019s \u2060Revolutionary Guards\u2019 navy \u200bhad called those statements \u201can obvious lie\u201d, reiterating that it remained closed to ships without Iranian permission.<\/p>\n

The waterway carried \u200bnearly a fifth of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before it was blockaded in the six-month-old Iran war.<\/p>\n

Iran is the third largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
