A fire safety report covering 22 government hospitals across Sindh has revealed serious deficiencies, including the absence of fire alarms and water sprinkler systems at several major healthcare facilities, ARY News reported on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to report, at Civil Hospital Karachi, all 180 fire extinguishers were found to be operational; however, the hospital has no fire alarm or sprinkler systems. The report stated that the electrical wiring at the 1,750-bed hospital requires repairs.<\/p>\n At Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), 208 fire extinguishers were found to be operational, but fire alarms and sprinkler systems were not available. The electrical wiring at the 2,208-bed hospital also requires repairs, according to the report.<\/p>\n Similarly, at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), 40 of the 135 fire extinguishers were found to be defective. The 533-bed hospital does not have a fire alarm system, while its electrical wiring was described as requiring extensive repairs.<\/p>\n At the 700-bed Lyari General Hospital, only 20 fire extinguishers were found to be operational. The hospital lacks water sprinklers, while regular fire drills are also not conducted.<\/p>\n At Qatar Hospital, only 25 fire extinguishers were found to be operational, and no fire alarm system was available. The report also revealed that regular fire drills were not being conducted at the 410-bed facility.<\/p>\n At Saudabad Hospital, 18 fire extinguishers were operational, but no fire alarm system was in place.<\/p>\n The report found that the safety exit of the children\u2019s ward at GMMMC Hospital in Sukkur was not clear. The hospital had only 20 fire extinguishers, while fire alarms and sprinkler systems were absent.<\/p>\n At SIMS Hospital in Shahdadpur, only five fire extinguishers were available, with no fire alarm system.<\/p>\n At Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Hyderabad, 110 fire extinguishers were operational, but fire alarms and sprinkler systems were absent. At the LUMHS Jamshoro campus, 32 fire extinguishers were available, but no fire alarm system was installed.<\/p>\n
