{"id":69937,"date":"2026-08-31T22:07:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T22:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/69937"},"modified":"2026-08-31T22:07:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T22:07:35","slug":"illegal-cigarette-manufacturing-facility-sealed-in-karachi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/69937","title":{"rendered":"Illegal cigarette manufacturing facility sealed in Karachi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p><strong>An illegal cigarette manufacturing facility has been sealed in Karachi\u2019s Malir area following an intelligence-based operation by Pakistan\u2019s tax authorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Regional Tax Office-II (RTO-II) Karachi said its Inland Revenue Enforcement Squad, working under the Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN), raided the facility on the outskirts of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Officials seized cigarette-making and packing equipment, including filter and token machines, heavy-duty generators and other machinery. The seized plant and machinery were valued at about Rs.200 million, according to the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>About 700kg of raw tobacco was also recovered from the premises.<\/p>\n<p>A preliminary assessment by the enforcement authorities found that the factory had the capacity to produce about 700,000 cigarette sticks a day. That would amount to roughly 200 million sticks a year.<\/p>\n<p>Officials estimated that the alleged illegal production could have resulted in an annual loss of about Rs.1.2 billion in government tax revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The tax authorities said criminal proceedings were subsequently initiated through registration of an FIR against the persons involved before the learned Special Judge (Customs &amp; Taxation), Karachi.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Tax Office-II, Karachi, reaffirmed its commitment to taking strict and sustained enforcement action against illegal cigarette manufacturing, illicit tobacco trade and tax evasion, in order to safeguard Government revenue and ensure compliance with the applicable tax laws.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/arynews.tv\/illegal-cigarette-manufacturing-facility-sealed-in-karachi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An illegal cigarette manufacturing facility has been sealed in Karachi\u2019s Malir area following an intelligence-based operation by Pakistan\u2019s tax authorities.
