JOHANNESBURG \u2013 Pitso Mosimane has been appointed as the South African national team\u2019s head coach \u200bfor the third time following the departure \u200cof the Belgian Hugo Broos, the country\u2019s soccer federation (SAFA) announced on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SAFA announced more than three weeks ago \u200bthat Mosimane was their preferred candidate to \u200btake over from the retiring Broos, before \u2060unveiling him on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Mosimane, 62, had a seven-game \u200bspell as an interim coach ahead of the \u200barrival of the Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira in 2007, and then took over immediately after the 2010 World \u200bCup but was sacked after they failed to \u200bqualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

He has since \u200cgone \u2060on to success as a club coach, winning three African Champions League titles and numerous domestic titles with South Africa\u2019s Mamelodi Sundowns and \u200bEgypt\u2019s Al Ahly.<\/p>\n

Mosimane, \u200ba former \u2060national team midfielder, will have to hit the ground running with \u200bSouth Africa kicking off their 2027 Cup \u200bof \u2060Nations qualification campaign with a home fixture against Guinea later this month.<\/p>\n

They will follow that up \u2060with \u200ba trip to neutral Egypt \u200bto face Eritrea and also have co-hosts Kenya in their qualification \u200bpool.<\/p>\n
