Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola said Thursday that Bradley Barcola arrived at the club with the \u201cright mentality\u201d after making clear his desire to join the Premier League club from Paris Saint-Germain.<\/strong><\/p>\n The France winger became the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool\u2019s history on Monday when he joined for a fee of up to \u00a3124 million ($167 million).<\/p>\n The fee is second only to the \u00a3125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle for Sweden star Alexander Isak last year.<\/p>\n Iraola, who has started his career at Anfield with two Premier League draws, welcomed the signing of the PSG player, saying he would be available for Friday\u2019s match at Ipswich.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was our priority, let\u2019s say, to sign a very, very good player in that position,\u201d the Spaniard told reporters on Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I think he has come also with the right mentality. I\u2019ve learnt from him that he wanted Liverpool a lot. He just wanted to come here and I think that\u2019s a good first sign.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd being the player that he is and the things that he has won recently, I think he has come also with the willingness to help us.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I\u2019m very happy with him and he trained well with us. If everything goes well today\u2019s training, also he will definitely be available for tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n Barcola, who operates largely on the left, will be part of an expensively assembled Liverpool attack that also includes Isak, Hugo Ekitike and playmaker Florian Wirtz.<\/p>\n The arrival of the Frenchman has raised questions about the future of left winger Cody Gakpo, who was linked with a move away from Anfield during the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n But Iraola said he was happy to keep Gakpo, whom he described as a \u201cvery valuable player\u201d.<\/p>\n Former Bournemouth manager Iraola, who replaced the sacked Arne Slot, said he was happy with the club\u2019s summer signings, including Barcola, Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.<\/p>\n \u201cThe club has decided that those signings that we\u2019ve done are the ones that improved our team, improved our position,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were other options that we decided not to take for different reasons. Sometimes it\u2019s sporting reasons because they don\u2019t improve what you have, sometimes it\u2019s because of economic reasons \u2014 it didn\u2019t make sense in terms of the market to do those movements.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I\u2019m happy now that I know what we have. I have a lot of quality in the team. Now is the moment for us, for the players, for me, to develop what we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
