Apple is getting ready for its biggest design change in almost ten years with the new iPhone Ultra. Since the iPhone X came out in 2017, Apple has used facial recognition modules that needed large screen notches. Now, to make the new foldable phone as slim as possible, engineers have had to rethink this hardware.<\/span><\/p>\n When unfolded, the iPhone Ultra is just 4.5 millimeters thick. Because of this, there isn\u2019t enough space to fit the large 3D facial recognition sensors into either the internal or external screens.<\/span><\/p>\n As a result, Apple will add a side-mounted fingerprint scanner to its top device. This will be the first high-end iPhone in seven years to launch without Face ID.<\/span><\/p>\n Without the facial recognition hardware, Apple can use a front-facing camera layout that is already popular on many Android phones.
