KARACHI, September 4, 2026: A target has been set to open the mixed traffic lanes on Karachi\u2019s University Road as work on the BRT Red Line project continues, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n A meeting of Trans Karachi reviewed progress on the project, where the FWO set September 15 as the target for opening the mixed traffic lanes on University Road.<\/p>\n The Meteorological flyover will also be completed and opened for mixed traffic by September 20.<\/p>\n Officials decided to open the left-side road from Hassan Square to NIPA Bridge during the third week of September. They said the delay in completing the Hassan Square-NIPA section was due to the installation of a new sewerage line for buildings along University Road.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, construction work near Safoora and NIPA, including the water tanker area, has entered its final stages. Rigid pavement work is continuing at different locations near Safoora and NIPA.<\/p>\n Officials said the road cannot be opened immediately after the rigid pavement work is completed, as it requires time for curing and maturation. The ongoing work is expected to be completed by the end of September.<\/p>\n According to Trans Karachi officials, construction work at some locations was delayed due to K-Electric underground crossings. Steps are being taken to resolve issues related to underground crossings and other utilities on a priority basis to ensure construction activities continue without interruption.<\/p>\n Construction of a 12-kilometre stormwater drainage system is also underway under the Red Line project. The drainage system will also require proper curing time and is expected to be completed by the end of September.<\/p>\n Trans Karachi officials said the project was facing several on-ground challenges at different locations, but construction activities were continuing. The administration also expressed full confidence in the pace and quality of FWO\u2019s construction work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
