Sydney, Australia: Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie said Friday chairman of selectors Aaqib Javed needs to \u201clook at himself in the mirror\u201d with the national team \u201cplaying with fear\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a shock move Pakistan this week replaced head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and pace-bowling chief Umar Gul, and sent seven players home from England, in a dramatic response to successive Test thrashings.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Gillespie, who led the side for eight months in 2024, including a 2-1 Test series win against England, said it was sad to see.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel for the players, this is these guys livelihoods,\u201d he told The Australian newspaper. \u201cFrom the outside it looks like they are playing with fear.<\/p>\n

\u201cSalman Ali Agha goes from captaining the team in the first Test against England to out of the team for the second Test and on the plane home before the third Test.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow does that work?\u201d<\/p>\n

He laid the blame firmly at the door of Javed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty clear they don\u2019t have a selection strategy at all, particularly under Aaqib Javed. They change their mind like they change their pants \u2014 daily,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

England name squad for third Test against Pakistan<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAaqib Javed came out recently and blamed (former Pakistan white-ball coach) Gary Kirsten and myself for everything that is going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cAaqib has been chairman of selectors for the past two years. We haven\u2019t even been there.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomehow he claims it is our fault. Make sense out of that. I think Javed needs to look at himself in the mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tourists suffered an innings and 103-run loss in the series opener at Headingley before going down by 194 runs at Lord\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The third and final Test starts at Edgbaston on September 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is definitely no communication between Aaqib Javed, who is meant to be chairman of selectors, and the players,\u201d added Gillespie.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe players who were sacked heard it through family and friends and the media they had been sacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow disrespectful is that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Several other ex-Pakistan coaches and players have been left similarly bewildered, including former captains Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik.<\/p>\n

Ex-coach Mickey Arthur called it \u201can absolutely ridiculous situation\u201d.<\/p>\n

New Zealander Mike Hesson, who was already Pakistan\u2019s white-ball chief, and Australian Ashley Noffke, have taken charge for the rest of the tour.<\/p>\n
