{"id":71842,"date":"2026-09-05T14:25:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T14:25:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/71842"},"modified":"2026-09-05T14:25:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T14:25:28","slug":"chinese-national-rescued-alive-from-nepal-tunnel-after-10-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/71842","title":{"rendered":"Chinese National Rescued Alive From Nepal Tunnel After 10 Days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p><strong>KATHMANDU: A Chinese national was pulled alive from a tunnel in Nepal on Saturday, authorities said, 10 \u200cdays after a wall of ice, rock and mud tore through a Himalayan valley, killing more than 1,300 people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>The Nepali army said Lu Haitao was rescued from inside a 225-meter tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He was the third person so far to be pulled out alive from various tunnels where \u200bauthorities believe 900 people might be stuck after the August 26 collapse of a glacier on the upper reaches of the river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On \u200bFriday, rescue workers pulled two people from another tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station on the \u2060same river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The authorities said Lu had no visible injuries and his vitals were stable, but showed signs of mild hypothermia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Footage shared by \u200bthe Nepali army showed him being given emergency medical attention inside a helicopter, which took him to an army hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He appeared exhausted and disoriented, \u200bwith dried mud and dust on his skin and clothing. A uniformed medic with a stethoscope was seen checking him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At least 1,344 people have been killed in Nepal in the floods that swept away houses, streets and schools in towns and villages near the border with China\u2019s Tibet, the disaster management authority \u200bsaid on Friday. About 4,887 are still missing, including 583 foreign nationals, many of them pilgrims and trekkers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As of Friday, China said the \u200bdeath toll in Tibet was 31, with 531 others listed as missing, including foreign nationals, according to state media Xinhua. Some 261 foreign nationals remain missing \u200cin Tibet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A \u2060woman, Chandika Kumari Shrestha, was also rescued from her home in Betrawati on Saturday, the Nepali army said. In an image shared by authorities, she is seen caked in mud inside a flooded underground structure as rescuers offer her water while working in a confined space filled with thick sludge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span>FAMILY STILL HOPES MISSING RELATIVE WILL BE FOUND<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>At the Maithili Barrack in Nepal\u2019s Nuwakot district, families filled walls with posters \u200bshowing loved ones believed to be \u200btrapped in the tunnels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Among \u2060them was the image of Ishwor Poudel, the brother of 34-year-old Krishna Poudel. Ishwor has been a worker at the tunnel of the Hakubesi Hydroelectric Project for the past three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Krishna says he last \u200bheard from his brother on August 26, shortly after floodwaters tore through the valley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI spoke to \u200bhim at 7:30 \u2060a.m. before he went into the tunnel for work. Around 11:30 a.m., after the floods came down, I finally got through and he told me: \u2018I\u2019m trapped inside the tunnel.&#8217;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The family has had no contact with him since, but remains hopeful. Survivors who escaped from the same tunnel told them \u2060that Ishwor \u200bwas still alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI met so many people who were able to escape and \u200bknew my brother.
