Xiaomi has introduced its new Dragonscale EV battery, developed in collaboration with CALB and Sunwoda. The company is offering one of the strongest lifetime guarantees for this battery so far.<\/p>\n
If a Dragonscale battery catches fire because of a manufacturing defect, Xiaomi will give the owner a new SUV from the same Skynomad series and trim, without considering depreciation or mileage. The company will also cover fires caused by collisions, paying the difference between the insurance payout and the car\u2019s market value before the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n The guarantee is only for vehicles used privately by their first owner. It does not cover rideshares, rentals, or used cars. Owners also need to keep an active Xiaomi connected services subscription and use only Xiaomi-authorized service centers, which is standard for such offers.<\/span><\/p>\n Xiaomi is not the first Chinese automaker to offer this type of guarantee. Earlier this year, Chery launched its Rhino Battery Safety Program, which gives a lifetime warranty on the battery, motor, and control unit, and a replacement car if thermal runaway destroys the vehicle. Buick also made a similar promise, offering a free replacement Electra E5 for any fire in the first year, but its coverage is more limited than Xiaomi\u2019s or Chery\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n These guarantees are possible because of China\u2019s new GB 38031-2025 standard, also known as the \u201cno fire, no explosion\u201d rule, which took effect in July. The old rule only needed a warning before ignition, but the new one requires battery packs to last two hours after thermal runaway starts, without catching fire or letting smoke enter the cabin. It also requires underbody impact tests and protection against damage from fast charging.<\/span><\/p>\n Xiaomi says the Dragonscale battery goes beyond these standards. It features high-voltage isolation that operates in milliseconds and a cloud-connected battery management system that checks cell data far more often than necessary. This is why an active connected services subscription is needed.<\/span><\/p>\n The battery will launch on September 7 with the Skynomad N90 and N70, which will have the world\u2019s longest-range EREV thanks to a large 76 kWh battery covered by a lifetime spontaneous combustion warranty. It is not yet clear whether the battery will be used in the SU7 or YU7, but Xiaomi is preparing to enter the European market, where the lifetime battery guarantee is likely to attract attention.<\/span><\/p>\n
