European budget carriers Wizz Air\u00a0and Ryanair\u00a0on Tuesday called for an overhaul of Britain\u2019s air \u200btraffic control provider NATS following a new technical issue\u00a0\u200cthat disrupted hundreds of flights at key airports in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cA critical national infrastructure provider should not repeatedly bring the aviation \u200bsystem to a standstill. NATS is simply not \u200bfit for purpose in its current form,\u201d a \u2060spokesperson for Wizz Air said in a statement.<\/p>\n Rival Ryanair \u200balso criticised the agency and called for the resignation of \u200bits CEO, Martin Rolfe.<\/p>\n \u201cFollowing the 2023 collapse, we were told lessons would be learned. We were told \u2018resilience would improve\u2019. We were \u200btold the systems had been fixed. Yet here we \u200bare again,\u201d Ryanair Chief Operations Officer Neal McMahon said.<\/p>\n NATS did not immediately \u200crespond \u2060to a request for comment.<\/p>\n In 2024, Britain\u2019s aviation regulator said NATS needed to review its contingency plans for outages after the automatic processing of flight plans had \u200bmalfunctioned a year \u200bearlier, causing \u2060chaos across Britain\u2019s airports.<\/p>\n The UK\u2019s civil aviation body on Tuesday said it had been \u200bin touch with NATS over the incident and \u200bexpects \u2060the latter to share a full report on the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will then consider whether any further steps need to \u2060be \u200btaken to help secure the safe \u200breliability of the UK\u2019s air traffic control system,\u201d a spokesperson for the \u200bCivil Aviation Authority said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
