KARACHI: An alleged case of medical negligence has surfaced in Karachi after the hand of a one-month-old baby, Azmatullah, had to be amputated, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n Police have registered a case against a doctor and hospital staff at Pirabad police station.<\/p>\n According to the baby\u2019s father, his son fell ill on August 31 and he took him to a hospital in Orangi Town No. 4. He said Dr Yasir Inam had a cannula inserted in the baby\u2019s hand and it was bandaged by three staff members.<\/p>\n The father said injections were administered through the cannula six to seven times.<\/p>\n He said he took his son back to the same hospital after four days, where the doctor removed the bandage and found that the baby\u2019s hand had turned completely black.<\/p>\n According to the father, the doctor prescribed medicines and said the infection would improve. However, after he felt that the infection was getting worse, he took the baby to Jinnah Hospital.<\/p>\n The doctor there, according to the father, told him that the infection had developed due to incorrect placement of the cannula and that the baby\u2019s hand would have to be amputated.<\/p>\n The father alleged that his son\u2019s hand was amputated due to negligence by Dr Yasir Inam and three unidentified hospital staff members.<\/p>\n Pirabad police said they had written to the Healthcare Commission for an investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n The hospital administration said the affected family had visited the hospital in August and had left after having the cannula inserted without informing the staff.<\/p>\n The administration said it had now been informed that the patient\u2019s hand had been amputated and that it was investigating the incident. It added that the hospital would face legal action if required.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
