{"id":75668,"date":"2026-09-14T22:06:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T22:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/75668"},"modified":"2026-09-14T22:06:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T22:06:12","slug":"canadian-dollar-hits-12-day-low-as-inflation-data-meets-expectations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/75668","title":{"rendered":"Canadian dollar hits 12-day low as inflation data meets expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p><strong>The Canadian dollar weakened to a 12-day low against its U.S. counterpart on Monday and bond yields rose, as \u200bdomestic inflation data met expectations and after the greenback notched \u200cbroad-based gains ahead of a Federal Reserve interest rate decision this week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The loonie was trading 0.3% lower at 1.3915 per U.S. dollar, or 71.86 U.S. cents, after \u200btouching its weakest intraday level since September 2 at 1.3929.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver \u200bis clearly a stronger U.S. dollar and that has been \u2060encouraged by the shift in expectations on Fed policy,\u201d said Marc \u200bChandler, chief market strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex LLC.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar rose across \u200bthe board as conflict in the Middle East pushed up oil prices and sent investors towards the safe-haven currency, and as investors bet the Fed would hike on Wednesday \u200bfor the first time in more than two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the \u200bU.S.-Canadian trade conflict is a negative as well,\u201d said Chandler, adding that investors doubted \u200ca trade \u2060deal could come soon as was suggested on Saturday by U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomes dozens of global investors to Toronto this week, hoping to lure investments for more than 160 projects that he \u200bsays are key \u200bto steering Canada\u2019s \u2060economy through a trade war with the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s consumer price index rose 3% year-over-year in August. That matched \u200bthe previous month\u2019s pace and economists\u2019 forecasts but left \u200binflation well \u2060above the Bank of Canada\u2019s 2% target.<\/p>\n<p>BoC Governor Tiff Macklem has said that policymakers were prepared to raise borrowing costs multiple times if inflation remained \u2060too \u200bhigh.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian bond yields rose across a flatter \u200bcurve.
