{"id":76875,"date":"2026-09-17T19:33:56","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T19:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/76875"},"modified":"2026-09-17T19:33:57","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T19:33:57","slug":"new-balance-sues-decathlon-for-trademark-infringement-over-shoe-logo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/76875","title":{"rendered":"New Balance sues Decathlon for trademark infringement over shoe logo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p><strong>New Balance has sued French sporting goods company Decathlon in Massachusetts federal court for allegedly violating \u200bthe sneaker maker\u2019s trademark rights in its \u201cN\u201d logo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New \u200cBalance said in the complaint, filed on Tuesday, that the backwards \u201cK\u201d on Decathlon\u2019s Kiprun running shoes resembles its famous \u201cN\u201d and will confuse consumers.<\/li>\n<li>Spokespeople \u200bfor the companies did not immediately respond to \u200brequests for comment on the lawsuit on Wednesday.<\/li>\n<li>The lawsuit \u2060said that Boston-based New Balance has used its \u201cN\u201d logo \u200bon footwear since the 1970s.<\/li>\n<li>France-based Decathlon sells its Kiprun shoes \u200bto U.S. customers online and through third-party brick-and-mortar retailers, according to the complaint.<\/li>\n<li>Decathlon\u2019s shoes feature a mirrored \u201cK\u201d logo that New Balance said in \u200bthe complaint is \u201cunmistakably an N.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The lawsuit cited social media posts \u200bnoting the logo\u2019s resemblance to New Balance\u2019s \u201cN\u201d and said Decathlon\u2019s design would \u200cconfuse \u2060potential customers.<\/li>\n<li>New Balance asked the court for an order blocking the alleged infringement and an unspecified amount of monetary damages.<\/li>\n<li>New Balance previously filed and settled similar U.S. lawsuits over \u200bits \u201cN\u201d logo with Michael \u200bKors and \u2060Nautica, and won a rare $1.5 million ruling in a Chinese court against shoemakers there over \u200bthe logo in 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The case is New Balance \u200bAthletics \u2060Inc v.
