An accountability court in Peshawar has approved a plea bargain between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and another accused in the Kohistan scandal.<\/strong><\/p>\n NAB said the accused, Khushal Khan, agreed to pay Rs.117 million as part of the settlement, which was approved by the NAB chairman.<\/p>\n According to the NAB prosecutor, accused Khushal Khan received public funds through fake bank accounts and had been held financially liable for more than Rs.117 million.<\/p>\n NAB told the court that the accused had deposited over Rs. 104.7 million through pay orders and cash deposit receipts (CDR).<\/p>\n He also offered a property measuring one kanal and 18 marlas in Mansehra as security for the remaining amount, NAB said.<\/p>\n The court ordered that Khushal Khan be released from prison if he was not required in any other case.<\/p>\n It also directed the deputy commissioner of Mansehra to retain the property offered as security until the remaining amount is recovered.<\/p>\n It is worth mentioning here that NAB handed over recovered assets worth more than Rs. 6 billion in June 2026 to the Government of KP in the first phase of asset recovery from one of Pakistan\u2019s largest-ever financial fraud investigations involving the misappropriation of public funds in Upper Kohistan.<\/p>\n The investigation, authorized in April 2025, uncovered what NAB described as a sophisticated network involved in the unlawful withdrawal and diversion of public funds through the manipulation of treasury instruments and abuse of official financial procedures.<\/p>\n The alleged fraud centered on withdrawals from Head of Account G-10113 in Upper Kohistan, with investigators concluding that more than Rs. 37 billion had been extracted through systematic misuse of government financial mechanisms over a period of nearly 10 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
