{"id":77468,"date":"2026-09-19T07:02:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-19T07:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/77468"},"modified":"2026-09-19T07:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-19T07:02:26","slug":"armed-passenger-robs-female-cab-driver-punctures-tyres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/77468","title":{"rendered":"Armed passenger robs female cab driver, punctures tyres"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p><strong>LAHORE: Amber Ehsan, a single mother of three, turned to online cab driving to support her children after facing severe financial difficulties and household responsibilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite facing harassment, security threats and difficult working conditions, Amber has continued driving for several years to provide for her family and become financially independent.<\/p>\n<p>In an exclusive interview with ARY News Lahore correspondent Javeria Ajmal, Amber said she decided to join an online cab service as an owner-driver in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>She said she was going through severe financial difficulties at the time and was solely responsible for raising her children. She needed a source of income that required minimal initial investment.<\/p>\n<p>Since she already owned a car and knew how to drive, Amber decided to turn her driving skills into a means of earning a livelihood.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"entry-content-asset videofit\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Life of a Female Taxi Driver in Pakistan | Brave Woman Sets an Inspiring Example\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XWLKgYdvPNo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>She said women are often encouraged to take up professions such as sewing, embroidery or makeup, but she chose to use the skills she already possessed and enter the driving profession.<\/p>\n<p>Amber recalled that when she started working as an online cab driver, there were very few women in the profession, exposing her to a range of reactions from the public.<\/p>\n<p>While many passengers treated her with respect and cooperation, she said some behaved inappropriately towards female drivers.<\/p>\n<h2>Security concerns for female drivers<\/h2>\n<p>Recalling some of the distressing incidents she experienced while driving, Amber said that on one occasion, several young passengers behaved inappropriately with her, cut her shirt and filmed the incident.<\/p>\n<p>She said the incident left her so traumatised that she was unable to return to work for around a month.<\/p>\n<p>In another incident, Amber said a passenger asked her to stop the car in a deserted area, pulled out a weapon and robbed her of cash, her mobile phone and other valuables.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arynews.tv\/petrol-relief-scheme-govt-removes-minimum-five-litre-purchase-condition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Petrol relief scheme: Govt removes minimum five-litre purchase condition<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Amber, the passenger also forced her to transfer money through the cab app before puncturing both tyres of her car and fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>She said online cab services have introduced various safety measures for female passengers, but more steps are still needed to protect women working as drivers.<\/p>\n<p>She also pointed out that it is not always possible to determine the passenger\u2019s gender from the name on an account, as some men book rides using accounts registered under women\u2019s names.<\/p>\n<p>However, she stressed that not all male passengers behave inappropriately and said she had also encountered many decent and respectful passengers during her years on the job.<\/p>\n<h2>Fewer rides, growing financial pressure<\/h2>\n<p>She said rising petrol prices had also affected her online cab business.<\/p>\n<p>She said she used to complete around 10 to 15 rides a day, but the number has now fallen to around eight or nine.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the decline in rides, she sometimes has to continue working until midnight, 1am or even later to meet her children\u2019s school fees, electricity bills and other household expenses.<\/p>\n<p>She said financial pressure sometimes leaves her with no choice but to drive late into the night.<\/p>\n<h2>Dream of a home for her children<\/h2>\n<p>Amber said she has three children, including a 23-year-old son, a nine-year-old son and a daughter who is now grown up.<\/p>\n<p>She said she continues to work hard to meet her children\u2019s needs despite having faced severe financial hardships throughout her life.<\/p>\n<p>Before becoming an online cab driver, she worked in the garments sector.
