LAHORE: Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has been taken into custody by police, ARY News reported on Sunday, quoting family sources.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Family sources said Aleema Khan was detained near Lahore Gymkhana. She was taken into custody by Lytton Road police under the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) law.<\/p>\n

According to the sources, the deputy commissioner issued the 3-MPO detention order on the police\u2019s request.<\/p>\n

Lawyer Khalid Yousaf said he had spoken to Aleema Khan over the phone shortly before she was taken into custody. Her vehicle was subsequently parked at Lytton Road Police Station, according to the sources.<\/p>\n

Further details regarding the grounds for her detention were not immediately available.<\/p>\n

3-MPO Law<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is a preventative detention law originally stemming from colonial-era regulations and promulgated as an ordinance in Pakistan in 1960.<\/p>\n

Under Clause 3, the government or a designated administrative officer (such as a Deputy Commissioner or Home Secretary) can issue an order to detain a person for a initial period\u2014often ranging from 30 days up to 3 months\u2014to prevent disruptions to public peace.<\/p>\n

Detention can sometimes be extended up to 6 months, but any detention exceeding 90 days generally requires review by a judicial board consisting of High Court judges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
