Qualcomm is moving away from its usual single flagship approach by launching two mobile processors for 2027 Android devices: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the more advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The standard model replaces the Gen 5, while the Extreme version is a higher-end choice. Here\u2019s how they stack up.<\/strong><\/p>\n Although they are different tiers, both chips share the same core design. They use a 2nm manufacturing process and Qualcomm\u2019s Oryon CPU, with two Prime cores at 5GHz and six Performance cores at 4GHz. Both also include the new X105 5G modem, which supports 3GPP Release 19 5G Advanced standards and uses six antennas for better data streaming.<\/span><\/p>\n Both processors are clear upgrades over the Gen 5, but the Extreme model is even better. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 has a 10 percent faster CPU and is 37 percent more power efficient. Its new Adreno GPU is 35 percent faster and uses 40 percent less power.<\/span><\/p>\n The Extreme edition boosts CPU performance by 13 percent and graphics by 44 percent. It also includes 18MB of High Performance Memory, which helps lower power use by another 12 percent, and adds a global VVC H.266 codec. For gaming, only the Extreme chip has Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses matrix cores for AI super-resolution and frame generation, reducing power draw by up to 40 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n For on-device AI, the standard chip has an improved Hexagon NPU with a new Element Accelerator, giving a 14 percent NPU boost and 20 percent better AI performance per watt. The Extreme version goes further, with a 35 percent faster NPU, 33 percent more efficiency, and 50 percent more shared memory. This lets it run local Mixture of Experts models with over 30 billion parameters.<\/span><\/p>\n Both chips use the Spectra ISP with Intelligent Pixel Control. The Extreme model, though, supports 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow-motion at 240fps.
