ROME: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain held a high-level meeting with Bangladesh\u2019s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo and Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku on the sidelines of the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems in Rome.<\/strong><\/p>\n The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, climate adaptation and the One Health approach, with both sides discussing shared challenges and opportunities to develop more sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.<\/p>\n Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted the common vulnerabilities of Pakistan and Bangladesh as agriculture-dependent countries facing increasing climate-related impacts, emerging diseases and environmental pressures.<\/p>\n He said closer cooperation in animal, human and environmental health could contribute to strengthening food security, protecting rural livelihoods and enhancing the resilience of farming communities.<\/p>\n The federal minister identified agricultural trade, research, mechanisation, livestock breed improvement and capacity building as key areas with potential for expanded cooperation. He also emphasised opportunities for institutional partnerships, technical exchanges and collaboration in agricultural and veterinary sciences.<\/p>\n Abdul Awal Mintoo welcomed the engagement and stressed the importance of coordinated action to address climate change and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n He highlighted the value of exchanging knowledge, experience and practical approaches to enhance climate resilience and promote sustainable agrifood systems, while noting the potential for closer cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n Sultan Salauddin Tuku underscored the importance of the fisheries and livestock sectors in supporting food security, nutrition and rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n He stressed the scope for cooperation in livestock development, improved production systems, disease prevention, research and technical capacity building, saying both countries could benefit from sharing expertise and strengthening institutional linkages.<\/p>\n The two sides also discussed potential cooperation in climate-smart livestock production, improved feed and fodder systems, disease surveillance, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and value addition.<\/p>\n Recently, Pakistan also engaged with Saudi Arabia to increase its agricultural and food exports to Saudi Arabia to $3 billion over the next two years.<\/p>\n The agreement followed talks held in Islamabad from August 26 to 28. The Pakistani delegation was led by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, while the Saudi delegation was headed by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman A.
