BNP Paribas will keep some sensitive customer data and critical operations off public cloud infrastructure \u200beven after signing a five-year cloud and AI \u200cpartnership with Google, the French bank said on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n The agreement gives BNP access to Google public-cloud infrastructure and Gemini models \u200bas the bank develops AI agents for internal \u200bwork including corporate credit memos, sales, trading, research \u2060and structuring.<\/p>\n But the deal does not mark a wholesale \u200bmove, BNP Group Chief Information Officer Marc Camus told \u200breporters in a call.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that we signed this agreement with Google doesn\u2019t mean that we will get rid of our on-premise \u200binfrastructure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Medical information held by its insurance \u200boperations was an example of highly confidential data for which BNP \u200cavoids \u2060public-cloud solutions, he said.<\/p>\n BNP plans to keep using open-source models and to maintain its partnership with French AI company Mistral, with the providers used for different applications.<\/p>\n The bank said \u200bit sees \u200bscope to use \u2060Google technology for less sensitive work such as invoice processing and data management.<\/p>\n Google \u200bsaid BNP would retain ownership of its data, \u200bwhich \u2060would not be used to train, tune or refine its models. The bank said Google\u2019s AI agents would be \u2060authenticated, \u200blimited to the resources needed \u200bfor their tasks, and monitored.<\/p>\n BNP and Google declined to disclose the deal\u2019s \u200bvalue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
