WASHINGTON: Politico, MS NOW and CNN reporters were barred from the White House on Thursday, \u200bjust hours after a judge deemed President Donald Trump\u2019s ban of the three news \u200coutlets likely unconstitutional and ordered their access immediately restored.<\/strong><\/p>\n US District Judge Tim Kelly\u2019s overnight ruling blocked the ban for 14 days in a major setback for Trump in one of his biggest battles with \u200bthe media.<\/span><\/p>\n The Politico reporter\u2019s credentials were also confiscated, Politico said, after Kelly temporarily \u200bblocked Trump\u2019s ban. An MS NOW reporter said she also was \u2060blocked from the White House, while CNN said some of its staff members were \u200bdenied entry onto the grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n MS NOW\u2019s Laura Barr\u00f3n-L\u00f3pez, speaking on the network outside of the \u200bWhite House complex, said it was unclear if her blocked entry was a defiance of the court order or a problem with the White House entry system.<\/span><\/p>\n Signs hang in the media work area at the White House after CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were kicked off the White House grounds by US President Donald Trump<\/span><\/p>\n Representatives for the White House did not immediately \u200brespond to a request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n Kelly, in his order, said the White House\u2019s revocation \u200bof the White House credentials of the journalists \u201clikely violated their constitutional due process rights.\u201d The judge also \u200craised \u2060doubts about the US Department of Justice\u2019s national security arguments for justifying the ban, noting that Trump himself had said the action was due to what the president alleged was false or negative coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n Theodore Boutrous, an attorney for the three outlets, praised the ruling \u200bin a statement, saying: \u201cThis \u200bis a strong ruling \u2060vindicating freedom of the press, due process and the rule of law. We greatly appreciate the court\u2019s swift action.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n A coalition of press \u200bfreedom groups and dozens of news organizations, including Reuters, filed a \u200blegal brief \u2060on Wednesday supporting the three news outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n
