German auto group Volkswagen will recall around 4 million vehicles across \u200bfour brands in the biggest such \u200caction since the Dieselgate scandal, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n Some 2.16 million VW \u200bmodels and 700,000 Audi models are \u200bto be recalled, according to Germany\u2019s KBA \u2060road traffic authority.<\/p>\n Seat confirmed the number. Skoda \u200bhad no immediate comment on the \u200breport.<\/p>\n In an earlier statement, Volkswagen said customers had been \u200casked \u2060to take their vehicles for repair because of the risk of corrosion involving a screw in the steering system. \u200bIf unchecked, \u200bthis could \u2060compromise the steering\u2019s function in the long term.<\/p>\n The company stressed \u200bthat the recall was a \u200bprecautionary \u2060measure and said the replacement of the screw would take no longer than an \u2060hour.<\/p>\n Volkswagen \u200bdeclined to comment on \u200bthe estimated cost of the recalls.<\/p>\n Volkswagen has been in business almost 90 years, and if you\u2019ve ever seen a Volkswagen Beetle road tripping down the highway or a Golf in the grocery store parking lot, then you\u2019ve seen the company\u2019s work.
