The transport minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, says women will have to hold a full driving licence and pass a driving test to qualify for the provincial government\u2019s electric scooter scheme.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media, Sharjeel Memon said women holding only learner licences would not be eligible to receive the scooters.<\/p>\n
He said over 50,000 women had now applied for driving licences, compared with just 154 women across Sindh who held licences when the electric scooter scheme was launched.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf 50,000 women have to be given electric scooters, the Sindh government will provide them,\u201d<\/p>\n
Senior minister said. \u201cBut the scooter will only be given to women who have a permanent driving licence and have passed the driving test.\u201d<\/p>\n
He warned that action would be taken against people using the scooters in violation of the scheme\u2019s conditions. He said there had been complaints that some recipients had altered the color of their scooters for use by men.<\/p>\n
He said surprise inspections would be carried out and that scooters would be confiscated if men were found riding them.<\/p>\n
He also referred to the Benazir Income Support Program and other government initiatives aimed at supporting low-income families.<\/p>\n
Sharjeel Memon also highlighted other initiatives introduced by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led provincial government, including the Hari Card for farmers and Labor Card for workers.<\/p>\n
He cited development projects in Mirpurkhas and Thar, as well as hospitals and universities, as examples of the party\u2019s work in Sindh.<\/p>\n
He stressed that people receiving scooters or other government assistance would not be required to vote for the PPP.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
