The US Food and Drug Administration has approved AbbVie\u2019s treatment for Parkinson\u2019s \u200bdisease in adults, the health regulator\u2019s website showed \u200con Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The drug tavapadon, which AbbVie gained access to through its $8.7 billion acquisition of Cerevel Therapeutics in 2023, comes \u200bas a once-a-day pill.<\/p>\n

It will be sold \u200bunder the brand name Juvmo, according to the \u2060FDA\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Parkinson\u2019s is a long-term brain condition that \u200bgradually damages movement control, often causing tremors, stiffness \u200band balance issues. More than 11 million people live with the disease worldwide, according to AbbVie.<\/p>\n

Juvmo works by mimicking dopamine, \u200ba vital brain chemical that naturally decreases in \u200bpeople with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The regulator\u2019s nod was based on data from AbbVie\u2019s \u200clate-stage \u2060trial program which showed the drug improved symptoms in patients with the disease. Common side effects reported in the trials included nausea, dizziness and headache.<\/p>\n

AbbVie \u200bdid not \u200brespond to a \u2060Reuters request for comment on the drug\u2019s launch and pricing.<\/p>\n

Citi analysts had \u200bpreviously said the launch was expected in \u200bthe \u2060third quarter of 2026, but that uptake was likely to be gradual as negotiations progressed on the drug\u2019s Medicare \u2060coverage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
