Britain\u2019s foreign minister met his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General \u200bAssembly in New York and told him his country would \u201cnot \u200ctolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil\u201d from groups linked to Iran.<\/strong><\/p>\n British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also discussed the war in \u200bthe Middle East, the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz \u200band Britain\u2019s \u201cunwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on \u2060UK soil,\u201d a Foreign Office statement said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Foreign Secretary reiterated the \u200bUK\u2019s unwavering resolve to combat threats from Iranian-linked groups on UK soil, including attacks \u200bon the British Jewish community,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n In July, Britain banned support for Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and a linked group following a series of antisemitic attacks, using new legal \u200bpowers designed to stop the use of state-sponsored proxies.<\/p>\n Iran has previously \u200bdenied using proxies. The British statement did not say how Araqchi responded to Miliband.<\/p>\n A statement \u200con \u2060Araqchi\u2019s Telegram account said he had used the meeting to call for a correction to \u201cthe destructive and irresponsible approaches of some European governments towards Iran and regional developments.\u201d<\/p>\n He also said an \u201cinsistence on interfering in countries\u2019 internal affairs \u200band the instrumental \u200buse of human \u2060rights concepts is in no way acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n Britain\u2019s National Cyber Security Centre said last week Iranian state-linked cyber actors had \u200bused a spyware family known as \u201cCHOSEN BRICK\u201d to steal emails, \u200bmessages \u2060and other sensitive information through \u201cspear-phishing\u201d campaigns on messaging platforms including WhatsApp and Telegram.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Foreign Secretary made clear that Britain will not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile \u2060activity \u200bon UK soil and set out the measures \u200bthe Government has taken in response,\u201d the Foreign Office statement added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
