LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Monday handed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar over to the police on a seven-day physical remand in the Jinnah House attack case, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n Hammad Azhar was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in connection with the case today.<\/p>\n The prosecutor requested another\u00a0 14-day physical remand of the accused to recover his mobile phone and SIM card.<\/p>\n On the other hand, the PTI leader and former federal minister complained to the court that a 21-day remand had been approved previously, adding that even in murder cases, a 14-day remand is typically given.<\/p>\n He questioned the court, asking whether his alleged crime was graver than murder.<\/p>\n He also complained that he was not being allowed to meet his family members and lawyers.<\/p>\n Earlier on the last hearing the ATC in Lahore approved a 21-day physical remand of him in the Jinnah house attack case.<\/p>\n Police requested the court to grant a 2o-day physical remand of the accused. The investigation officer (IO) informed the court that Azhar had been a proclaimed offender in the case for a long time.<\/p>\n \u201cHe has now been arrested, and physical remand is required for further investigation,\u201d police stated.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the investigation police said Hammad Azhar was wanted in 18 cases and had been in hiding for three years.<\/p>\n Police formally announced his arrest earlier in the day, noting that the proclaimed offender was apprehended in accordance with legal procedures.<\/p>\n Authorities stated that a challan will be submitted to the ATC upon completion of the investigation.<\/p>\n On Sunday, former Member of the National Assembly Hammad Azhar has been arrested in Multan and handed over to the Lahore police.<\/p>\n Hammad Azhar was among the several PTI leaders who went into hiding following the May 9 riots last year when protesters took to the streets after former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested from court premises.<\/p>\n Last year, the former minister announced his decision to surrender before the court in connection with the cases registered against him pertaining to the events of May 9.<\/p>\n According to police sources Azhar is wanted in connection with multiple cases related to the May 9, 2023 events.<\/p>\n In January, 2026, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) declared seven individuals, including PTI leader Hammad Azhar, as proclaimed offenders (POs) in the May 9 attack on Club Chowk near the GOR Gate.<\/p>\n ATC Administrative Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over the hearing and issued perpetual arrest warrants for Hammad Azhar, Zubair Khan Niazi, Akbar Khan, Masood Ahmed Subhani, Arsalan bin Basharat, Farooq Anjum, and Habib Ahmed.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
