The World Bank (WB) and Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) agreed on Monday, 28 September 2026, to introduce advanced digital systems to expand Punjab\u2019s tax base and improve revenue collection.<\/strong><\/p>\n A WB delegation, comprising Regional Director Mr. Michael Roggi, Manager Sylvia Solf and other members, held an important meeting here with PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra.<\/p>\n The meeting discussed measures to modernize Punjab\u2019s tax system and transform it digitally. Detailed discussions were held on the effective use of digital databases in tax collection and the Digital Economy Enhancement Project.<\/p>\n The participants agreed to benefit from modern tax models and international best practices adopted by different countries.<\/p>\n The meeting also proposed integrating data from different government departments to develop a more effective tax collection system.<\/p>\n \u201cDigital tools will be utilized to expand the tax base and bring new businesses into the tax net,\u201d said the PRA Chairman.<\/p>\n He added that digital data will help identify tax evasion, misappropriation, and discrepancies in business records.<\/p>\n The World Bank delegation emphasized that PRA\u2019s digital monitoring and tax administration systems would be further strengthened. With the technical assistance and funding support of the World Bank, PRA and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will jointly develop a working plan for digital tax reforms.<\/p>\n Sipra said, \u201cModern technology will enable more effective utilization of data relating to tax returns, payments and business activities,\u201d asserting that the use of modern technology and data analytics in Punjab\u2019s tax system would be promoted in line with international standards.<\/p>\n He said that a practical roadmap for tax reforms will be developed with the technical assistance of the World Bank.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
