The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 by 15 days to October 15, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to a circular issued by the FBR, the deadline has been extended in view of requests received from various trade bodies and tax bar associations.<\/p>\n The extension has been granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the circular said.<\/p>\n The FBR said the extension applies to persons who are required to file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 by September 30.<\/p>\n Earlier on 29 September 2026, FBR warned of penalties for filing income tax returns after September 30. ARY News reported, citing Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sources.<\/p>\n From October 1, the existing \u201clate filer\u201d category will be discontinued, with taxpayers who fail to file their returns within the deadline being classified as non-filers, sources said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n According to FBR sources, late-payment and other penalties applicable to non-filers will be substantially higher. Taxpayers who fail to submit their income tax returns from October 1 onward will face penalties applicable to non-filers rather than those imposed on late filers.<\/p>\n For individuals, the penalty for failing to file a return will increase from Rs1,000 to as much as Rs25,000, sources said.<\/p>\n The penalty for an Association of Persons (AOP) will rise from Rs10,000 to Rs50,000, while companies failing to file their returns will face a penalty of up to Rs100,000 instead of the existing Rs20,000.<\/p>\n FBR sources also said September 30 is the final deadline for the business community to register for sales tax and income tax under the applicable requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
