The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned a drone attack launched by Houthis on a power station in Medina.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The statement from the organization followed a Saudi announcement that the Taiba electricity distribution station, which provides power to the Prophet\u2019s Mosque, had been targeted.
OIC<\/p>\n

The organization\u2019s General Secretariat said it \u201cstrongly condemned and denounced\u201d the attack.<\/p>\n

It described the targeting of vital infrastructure and facilities in Medina as \u201ca dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of the sanctity of holy sites,\u201d as well as international and humanitarian laws and norms.<\/p>\n

The organization affirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in measures taken to protect its territory, security and stability, defend Islamic holy sites and safeguard citizens and residents.<\/p>\n

The \u200bSaudi-led coalition fighting Yemen\u2019s Houthis said on Thursday the \u200cgroup had attacked a power distribution station in Medina this week, putting one transformer out of service but without affecting the electricity network.<\/p>\n

The coalition said an \u200binvestigation and examination of drone wreckage confirmed Houthi involvement in \u200bplanning and carrying out Tuesday\u2019s attack. It said the station \u2060supplies electricity to the Prophet\u2019s S.A.W Mosque, one of Islam\u2019s holiest \u200bsites.<\/p>\n

There was no immediate comment from the Houthis on the coalition\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n

Saudi \u200bArabia said two weeks ago it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca before it entered restricted airspace over the city. The coalition described \u200bthat incident as the second Houthi attempt to target Mecca since \u200b2017, while the Houthis denied targeting Mecca or any other Islamic holy site.<\/p>\n

The \u200ccoalition \u2060said the Medina attack was part of what it described as repeated Houthi attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and \u201cprovoke\u201d Muslims worldwide. It said it would continue taking measures to protect the holy sites \u200band pilgrims.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
