KARACHI: The final stage for the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor of the University of Karachi has been completed, with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah interviewing all three shortlisted candidates, ARY News reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to sources, the candidates interviewed by the chief minister included Dr Wasim Qazi, the incumbent vice chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University, Dr Muazzam Ali Khan, vice chancellor of Government College University Hyderabad, and Dr Shafiqur Rehman, the incumbent registrar of Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad.<\/p>\n Earlier, the search committee formed for the appointment of the vice chancellor had awarded marks to the candidates.<\/p>\n Dr Wasim Qazi secured first position with 86 marks, while Dr Muazzam Ali Khan stood second with 74 marks and Dr Shafiqur Rehman ranked third with 71 marks.<\/p>\n The permanent vice chancellor position at the University of Karachi has been vacant since July 28 after the second term of former vice chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi was not extended.<\/p>\n At present, Dr Tufail Ahmed Jokhio, vice chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology, is holding the additional charge of Karachi University vice chancellor.<\/p>\n Under the Sindh government\u2019s orders, Dr Tufail Jokhio will continue to perform additional responsibilities as Karachi University vice chancellor until the appointment of the new permanent vice chancellor and assumption of charge.<\/p>\n The notification for the final appointment will be issued after approval from the Sindh chief minister.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
