JAKARTA: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto named a new advisory council on Friday that includes tycoons, politicians and influential former \u200bIslamic leaders, the latest in a slew of personnel changes \u200cas he grapples with a declining approval rating.<\/strong><\/p>\n Among the 24 new members appointed are local billionaires Dato Sri Tahir, founder of Mayapada Group, and \u200bChairul Tanjung, CT Corp\u2019s founder, whose businesses focus on \u200bfinance, media, retail, and hospitality.<\/p>\n The council also includes two \u2060former leaders of the Nahdlatul Ulama, Indonesia\u2019s largest Islamic organisation, \u200band four senior politicians from Prabowo\u2019s coalition partners, three of whom \u200bare former cabinet ministers.<\/p>\n The advisory council was established in 2006 and Prabowo did not appoint any new members in his first two years in office.<\/p>\n The \u200bchanges follow two cabinet reshuffles in three weeks that have seen \u200bnew finance and foreign ministers appointed.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is an extraordinary opportunity to share our \u200cexperiences,\u201d \u2060the council\u2019s head, Pratikno, said after the inauguration.<\/p>\n The new appointments are aimed at shoring up Prabowo\u2019s political power base, amid a ratings slide and public and investor concern about his administration\u2019s \u200bpolicymaking, said Arya \u200bFernandes, an analyst \u2060at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.<\/p>\n \u201cThe big homework is ensuring that this advisory council \u200btruly plays a role in formulating strategic policies,\u201d \u200bhe added.<\/p>\n The \u2060advisory body also includes Anwar Usman, who was removed as Constitutional Court chief justice over an ethics violation in a case that allowed \u2060his \u200bnephew and current Vice President Gibran Rakabuming \u200bRaka to be Prabowo\u2019s running mate in the 2024 election, despite him not meeting the \u200bqualification criteria.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
