Wheat prices in Punjab\u2019s open market have risen by Rs.600 per maund (40kg) over a week, increasing from Rs.4,700 to Rs.5,300.<\/strong><\/p>\n The increase has pushed up the price of flour, with mills raising rates by as much as Rs.20 per kilogram.<\/p>\n A 15kg bag of flour is now being sold at around Rs.2,300, an increase of Rs.250, while flour from mills is being sold at between Rs.155 and Rs.160 per kilogram, according to market dealers.<\/p>\n Market sources attribute the rise to a reduction in government wheat supplies to flour mills. Punjab\u2019s flour mills are currently receiving about 3,500 tons of government wheat, against an estimated daily demand of 15,000 to 20,000 tons.<\/p>\n Flour mill representatives have warned that wheat and flour prices could rise further if the government does not increase the official wheat quota.<\/p>\n In wholesale markets, regular flour is selling for about Rs.155 per kilogram, maida at Rs.167 and fine flour at Rs.180.<\/p>\n Retail prices have reached around Rs.170 for regular flour, Rs.200 for fine flour and Rs.210 for stone-ground flour.<\/p>\n Sources also said some flour mills had temporarily restricted supplies for several days before increasing prices, contributing to shortages at retail outlets.<\/p>\n The situation has added to pressure on wheat prices, with open-market rates reaching as high as Rs.14,500 per 100kg.<\/p>\n Imported wheat is expected to arrive by November 2026, but prices are likely to remain under pressure until supplies improve.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
