{"id":86244,"date":"2026-10-09T22:59:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/86244"},"modified":"2026-10-09T22:59:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:59:15","slug":"un-calls-us-plans-to-livestream-execution-abhorrent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsvog.com\/ur\/86244","title":{"rendered":"UN calls US plans to livestream execution &#8216;abhorrent&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size:16px;line-height:1.6\">\n<p data-id=\"ewxwV3\"><strong>The United Nations on Friday called US plans to livestream \u200bthe execution of Nidal Hasan, the \u200cgunman who killed 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in 2009, \u201cabhorrent\u201d and said it \u200bcould be a violation of prohibitions \u200bagainst torture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese kinds of public executions \u2060we\u2019ve seen in other countries, whether \u200bit\u2019s Iran or Afghanistan \u2026 can constitute a \u200bform of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, or punishment,\u201d UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a daily \u200bUN briefing in New York.<\/p>\n<p data-id=\"09H80J\">\u201cShowing it \u200blive is tantamount \u2026 to it being public, and could \u200cbe \u2060a violation of the prohibition against torture,\u201d he said. \u201cA government executing someone in public, or in front of live cameras, \u200bfrankly, is \u200babhorrent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-id=\"sX5vTw\">\u2060Hasan is set to become the first person to be executed \u200bby US military firing squad \u200bsince \u20601945.
