WASHINGTON, Oct 11: The Federal \u200bAviation Administration told US airlines on Sunday to exercise caution \u200cwhen flying to or over Saudi Arabia, citing safety threats tied to ongoing military activities and navigation system interference.<\/strong><\/p>\n The FAA \u200bNotice to Airmen, which lasts until December 10, \u200bfollows strikes on Saturday and Sunday on Riyadh\u2019s international airport. \u2060The attack on Saturday killed 13 people and wounded \u200bmore than 300.<\/p>\n \u201cThreats could pose a potential risk to \u200baircraft at all altitudes, including overflight, the arrival, and departure phases of flight,\u201d the FAA said, warning of the \u201cpotentially hazardous situation.\u201d<\/p>\n The notice also \u200bapplies to operators of airplanes that are registered \u200bin the US.<\/p>\n Riyadh airport remains closed to flights through at least 5 \u200cp.m. \u2060EDT Monday.<\/p>\n US carrier Delta Air Lines is set to begin direct flights to Riyadh on October 23 from Atlanta.<\/p>\n Delta did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday \u200bbut CEO \u200bEd Bastian told \u2060CNBC last week that \u201csafety is going to make the call\u201d about whether the \u200bairline will move forward.<\/p>\n Other major US airlines serve \u200bRiyadh \u2060via codeshare partners.<\/p>\n In September 2025, FedEx launched its first dedicated flight into Saudi Arabia. The FedEx Boeing 777 freighter \u2060operates \u200bsix times per week and \u200bconnects the Americas and Europe to Riyadh, with connections to Guangzhou and Shanghai.<\/p>\n One person was killed and nearly a dozen hurt in a new attack on the airport on Sunday evening, Saudi \u2060authorities reported, \u200ba day after a strike claimed by Yemen\u2019s Iran-aligned Houthis killed \u200b13 people and wounded more than 300, the deadliest attack in the kingdom in more than a decade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
