White House press secretary Katie Zacharia was fired after \u200bless than a week on the job, two US officials said on Friday, after a rocky start as President Donald \u200cTrump\u2019s top spokesperson.<\/strong><\/p>\n Zacharia was \u201clet go\u201d and is \u201ctransitioning out\u201d of the press secretary position, according to two separate White House officials. She faced days of questions about her legal credentials and criticism of her performance in a news briefing and interviews.<\/p>\n The departure leaves Trump without a key public messenger just over \u200btwo weeks before November\u2019s midterm elections, a critical period when the president is seeking to tout his administration\u2019s accomplishments and \u200bhelp his fellow Republicans retain control of Congress.<\/p>\n Trump told reporters earlier on Friday that he had \u2060asked Zacharia to reconsider whether to continue in her role after facing tough press coverage during her first days on the \u200bjob.<\/p>\n \u201cI told her: \u2018I think you\u2019re better off being happy, and I\u2019m not sure you can ever be happy in this stuff.\u2019 There\u2019s \u200bnothing easy about this stuff,\u201d Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for a weekend trip.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cI said to her honestly, \u2018If I were you, I\u2019d reconsider\u2026 think about it. But I would reconsider.’\u201d Trump said he intended to revisit the conversation with Zacharia later.<\/p>\n Zacharia started on Monday and held her debut White \u200bHouse briefing on Tuesday. She said she received a call about the press secretary role on October 7 and was offered the job to \u200bsucceed Karoline Leavitt a week ago.<\/p>\n She soon faced questions about her career, which she said included a tenure practicing law. Trump had also described her as \u200can attorney.<\/p>\n \u201cI \u2060practiced international transaction law, with all the appropriate credentials,\u201d Zacharia said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Reuters could not find records showing the Pepperdine University law school graduate was registered as an attorney or member of the bar in any US state or the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n During a Fox News interview on Thursday, Zacharia said she did not pass the bar exam. Law school graduates cannot legally practice \u200blaw in the US without \u200bfirst being admitted to a \u2060state bar.<\/p>\n Zacharia and the White House did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment about her firing.<\/p>\n Earlier on Friday, she told reporters at the White House that she was looking forward \u200bto working with the press.<\/p>\n Trump hired Zacharia after expressing concerns about the media coverage of his \u200badministration, feeling he \u2060needed a new spokesperson who could amplify his achievements, according to two people familiar with the conversations.<\/p>\n In a phone interview with Fox on Friday, Trump said he was in no rush to name a new press secretary.<\/p>\n Zacharia\u2019s quick exit meant she had what is believed \u2060to be \u200bthe shortest tenure of any press secretary in the role\u2019s history.<\/p>\n \u201cRecords are \u200bmade to be broken,\u201d Anthony Scaramucci, who served as director of communications for 10 days during Trump\u2019s first administration, said on X. \u201cBut I take no pleasure in \u200bother people\u2019s pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
