WASHINGTON: A truck drove into a youth soccer game in Wichita, Kansas, leaving a \u200bsix-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man dead, and 10 others \u200chospitalized with traumatic injuries, police said on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n The injuries ranged from minor to severe, but none appear to be life threatening, Wichita police Captain Aaron Moses \u200bsaid at a news conference. The two people killed were \u200bpronounced dead at the scene, he said.<\/p>\n Moses said a 34-year-old \u2060woman was driving the truck, which ended up in a field \u200bat the west end of the Stryker Sports Complex. She has \u200bbeen cooperating with investigators, he said, but when asked whether she had been arrested, he said only that she was in custody.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know what happened, but now \u200bwe\u2019re working very hard to find out why it happened, and \u200bwe\u2019re not there yet,\u201d Wichita police Chief Joe Sullivan said.<\/p>\n The injured include two youths \u200caged \u20605, two aged 8, a 9-year-old and five adults, police said. In addition to those 10 people, one adult was hospitalized for non-traumatic medical issues.<\/p>\n The driver had a child playing soccer at the complex, but \u200bnot on the \u200bfield where \u2060the incident took place, Moses said. The truck involved had two juveniles as passengers, he said.<\/p>\n Emergency dispatchers started \u200bgetting calls about the incident at 3:25 p.m. \u200blocal time (2025 \u2060GMT), Moses said.<\/p>\n \u201cToday is a heartbreaking day for Wichita,\u201d Mayor Lily Wu said. \u201cFamilies came to Stryker Sports Complex to enjoy a Saturday afternoon, watching \u2060their \u200bchildren play soccer and no one could \u200bhave imagined the tragedy that would unfold.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
