DUBAI: Iran\u2019s offer to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days is still on \u200bthe table, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Iranian media \u200coutlets on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n Iran presented its proposal in mid-September after an interim ceasefire collapsed. Tehran later acknowledged receiving a US response but Iran\u2019s security chief said last week negotiations \u200bhave stalled because Washington failed to address all seven conditions for \u200breopening the strait.<\/p>\n \u201cOur situation is clear and based on \u2060the seven-day proposal presented to the US. They shared comments which \u200bwe are reviewing, but our proposal is still on the table \u200band if there is any honesty on the US part, which there isn\u2019t, the way to reopening the Strait of Hormuz is obvious,\u201d Araqchi said while in \u200bBaghdad for a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.<\/p>\n Iran\u2019s \u200bconditions include, among other demands, the lifting of the US blockade on its ports, \u200cthe \u2060lifting of US sanctions on its oil exports as well as ending hostilities on all regional fronts.<\/p>\n If Washington accepts Tehran\u2019s conditions, the strait could reopen within six days, with talks resuming the following day, \u200bAraqchi said.<\/p>\n A central \u200bpoint of \u2060disagreement has been Washington\u2019s insistence on addressing Iran\u2019s nuclear programme from the outset.<\/p>\n US Vice President JD Vance said \u200bearlier this month that Iran must make a \u201cmeaningful\u201d reduction \u200bin \u2060its uranium enrichment capacity to satisfy US demands and end the countries\u2019 eight-month war.<\/p>\n Tehran says negotiations should initially focus on reopening the Strait of \u2060Hormuz, \u200bwhich before the war carried about a \u200bfifth of the global trade in oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and restoring security \u200bin the waterway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
