Real Madrid are seeking contributions towards the setup costs of the failed European Super League project from \u200bthe six Premier League clubs that withdrew shortly after its \u200claunch, the Spanish side confirmed to Reuters on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Athletic reported that the total costs could reach \u20ac80 million ($89.9 million). Real are seeking payments from \u200bArsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham \u200bHotspur.<\/p>\n The six were among nine of the competition\u2019s 12 \u2060founding clubs that withdrew within three days of its launch \u200bin 2021 amid widespread opposition.<\/p>\n Real did not immediately confirm whether they \u200bwere also seeking payments from the other three early leavers, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n Real Madrid said the six English clubs were liable \u200bfor costs incurred in establishing the competition, which have so \u200bfar been covered by Juventus, Barcelona and Real.<\/p>\n Tottenham declined to comment while the \u200cother \u2060five Premier League clubs did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.<\/p>\n The Athletic reported that the clubs signed a shareholders\u2019 agreement for the European Super League Company, the holding company \u200bbehind the competition, \u200balthough it is \u2060unclear whether the contract explicitly set out their liability for setup costs.<\/p>\n The Super League collapsed shortly \u200bafter its launch following the withdrawal of the \u200bnine clubs.<\/p>\n Juventus \u2060subsequently pulled out of the project and Barcelona formally withdrew in February, leaving Real Madrid as its sole remaining founding club.<\/p>\n Real, UEFA \u2060and \u200bEuropean Football Clubs announced an agreement \u200bof principles on February 11 aimed at resolving their Super League-related legal disputes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
